Many coaches and trainers dream about opening up their own studio. Transitioning from a coaching role to a franchise owner can be a fulfilling and profitable career move. Coaches possess unique skills such as leadership, motivation, and a deep understanding of personal development, which are all critical for successful franchise ownership. However, this journey also requires new knowledge and skills in business management and operations.
Coach360 reached out to some of the leading franchise owners in the business to ask for their advice, strategy, and to share any important information they found throughout their experiences in becoming franchise owners to assist other coaches and trainers in obtaining their dreams.
To understand the opportunity of owning a franchise, understanding how the model works is imperative.
The franchise business model consists of the owner of the business (franchisor) granting the rights to their business model, brand, products, and services to an individual or other business (franchisee). This individual franchise operates their own business, but it utilizes the model laid out for them from the original franchisor.
An example of this would be F45, a famous franchise studio with presence in 66 countries and more than 2,000 locations open across the globe. Successful in their model, F45 offers the opportunity for career progression starting from coach, and assisting the coach as they develop skills to move up through local and regional manager roles, and eventually studio owners if they so desire.
Not all franchise models operate in the exact same way, but this is a brief cookie cutter overview of what the process might look like as you consider your journey from coach to franchise owner.
It all starts with the original franchisor developing a successful business model that they want to expand upon by opening up the opportunity to others. The franchisor creates a comprehensive system which includes manuals, training programs, marketing strategies, and more.
Then the franchisor seeks out potential franchisees, or others come to the franchisor to discuss the opportunity. Once an interest is established, the franchisee signs a contract or agreement, pays the franchise fee, and prepares to open their own location of the franchise. If it’s done with good intention, the franchisor acts as a mentor, providing extensive training of all aspects of owning and operating the franchise and how to make it successful.
The location opens under the franchisor’s brand, follows established business model and operating procedures, and the franchiser continues to support the franchisee as they wade through training, marketing, and operations. The franchisee pays regular royalties and advertising fees to the franchisor. Both the franchisee and franchisor benefit symbiotically from this relationship, and because the success of both is generally tied to each other, they can continue to expand and grow the business together for the highest success rate.
Body Fit Training (BFT), an international group function + strength community gym experience has become an extremely successful franchise. Their website boasts that 40% of their franchisee’s own more than one studio, which is a remarkable number and proves that the franchise opportunity can be extremely successful for the right coach.
Dave Thomas, from Performance360, shared some of his sage advice for anyone looking to start their own journey to Franchise owner. One of the first things Dave shared with me about assessing readiness is making sure you have the financial backing to begin your endeavor. Some people may already have the money themselves, or a partner to financially back them, many don’t have the resources to start from the ground up. Dave suggests you research exactly how much money you need and to be loud about your dreams! The more you share your dreams and desires with the network, the more likely you are to find someone who believes in you and your dreams.
Similarly, Travis Barnes of Journey 333 shared the importance of investing time learning about the financial, operational, and marketing portions of running a franchise business. By doing your research up front, you’ll be more equipped to face the challenges that franchise owners face. Barnes states, “Resources like franchise training programs and mentorship from experienced franchise owners can be immensely helpful.”
Transitioning from coach to franchise owner is an exciting journey that combines passion for fitness with business acuity. With proper financial planning, thorough research, and tapping into their network, coaches can successfully navigate the transition to franchise ownership.
The experiences shared by successful franchise owners highlight the importance of preparation, mentorship, and continuous learning when it comes to achieving business success. By embracing this path, coaches can turn their passion into a thriving enterprise, multiplying their impact on the people they help, all while maintaining a fulfilling career.
The future of wellness requires us to open our minds to a more inclusive approach in order to achieve optimal results. The new world of wellness is taking a more encompassing look at what “wellness” really means and how we can utilize it to help people become increasingly better. This new understanding includes a multifaceted approach to wellness; mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual are just a few ways that we can incorporate more wellness into our (and our clients) daily lives.
As the industry shift takes place it will become more important for coaches and trainers to offer a more adaptable approach to wellness. The future looks more personalized, holistic, preventative, mindful, and inclusive. By taking an inclusive look at wellness, trainers and coaches harness a unique ability to not only address the physical health needs of their clients, but aid in their overall well-being in a multitude of ways.
If you ask 100 people what they think of when they hear the word “wellness” you will very likely get 100 different answers. There are many ways to assess, practice, and think about wellness, and the opportunities are just starting to open up. According to The Global Wellness Institute, wellness is defined as “ The active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.”
In a world that has largely focused on physical health and aesthetics as markers of health, we’re seeing major industry trends to meet the most literal definition of the world. One thing that’s become most notable is the approach to include a unity of different types of wellness.
Therapy has become far more mainstream in the last decade as we have shifted collectively to accept that more people suffer from mental health disorders than ever before including high stress, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. There’s also been an increase in wellness coaches and mindset coaches, both of which offer clients a safe and dedicated space to consider their current state of wellness and find ways to improve.
This new understanding includes many types of wellness into consideration including the physical, mental, emotional, social, sexual, spiritual, and environmental wellness. All of these categories contribute to the overall wellness a person experiences. By prioritizing a well-rounded approach to wellness, an individual can find more balance, be more in tune with their needs and fulfillment, and more easily address the issues we face that comes with being human.
By taking a multifaceted approach to wellness, we get a better overall idea of what someone’s health truly looks like. And as coaches and trainers, we have the unique ability to help our clients improve their wellness in a myriad of ways.
This can be as simple as organizing meet-ups or smaller group classes to encourage socialization among your clients, or leading a workout at your religious organization, which brings movement, spirituality, and community together. The opportunities to intersect various types of wellness are as limited as your imagination.
You’ll also likely improve retention rates with your clients and potentially see more referrals as clients are more likely to stick around with a trainer or coach who helps them see results (whether they’re physical or otherwise).
You can look to physical wellness as the template for why it is important to practice other types of wellness. As we see with physical health, the better we take care of our bodies and work on them, the healthier they become. Take strength training or running, for example. As we challenge our bodies to lift weights or run distances, our bodies must adapt to the load and gradually, our muscles can lift heavier weights, and our cardiovascular system allows us to run a little longer. The more we practice our other types of wellness, the more they adapt to their own loads and become stronger.
Embracing a multifaceted approach to wellness is essential for the future of the industry. As we move towards a more inclusive and holistic understanding of health, the role of trainers and coaches becomes increasingly pivotal. By integrating various aspects of wellness—mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and more—professionals can offer more comprehensive and personalized support to their clients.
This not only enhances the client-coach relationship but also sets trainers apart as experts capable of addressing the diverse needs of individuals in a meaningful way. Ultimately, the future of wellness lies in our ability to embrace a broader perspective, fostering an environment where holistic health and a macro lens view of well-being are imperative.
Finding success in the health and wellness industry is one challenge, but starting a successful business from scratch to fill an industry need is another. The decision to start a new business can feel scary and exciting and requires immense knowledge and dedication to the field. This holds true for any successful business and is definitely the case with an internationally recognized brand like The Fit Guide.
With accomplishments such as founder, CEO of an award-winning club, podcast host, and successful entrepreneur, it may be surprising to find that the man behind half of the prestige of a Michelin rating system for boutique gyms is humble and kind. However, that’s precisely what you encounter when you sit down for a conversation with Jack Thomas—a kind, level-headed individual who makes it feel more like chatting with a buddy than interviewing an industry expert.
Jack Thomas is a fitness industry expert who began his journey in 2011 as a personal trainer, but his ambitions didn’t stop there. After excelling in personal training, Jack was ready to take on new challenges. Enter the inception of BASE, a boutique gym in Bangkok that Jack founded and is CEO of, which was voted Asia’s ‘Gym of the Year’ and ‘Bangkok’s Best Studio.’ Despite reaching these impressive accolades, Jack’s journey was far from over.
Enter Matt Lavender, another successful entrepreneur with a background in luxury hospitality, including training hotel inspectors and providing consulting services to over 700 luxury hotels, restaurants, resorts, and spas in his career. Combining Jack’s expertise in fitness with Matt’s mastery in luxury hospitality created the perfect synergy for a revolutionary new idea in the fitness industry: The Fit Guide was born.
The Fit Guide is described as the Michelin star rating system of boutique gyms around the world. What Jack and Matt started is, according to their website, “the only global, independent rating system for premium fitness clubs and studios”. What they saw was a fitness industry need for a rating system that would allow for a globally-recognized and consistent rating of fitness studios much like they have for restaurants (Michelin Star) and hotels (Michelin Key).
The service involves a thorough survey of 250 objective standards, covering every aspect from the initial phone call to the actual club visit. Each indicator is meticulously assessed, enabling Matt and Jack to provide gym or club owners with invaluable feedback on improving their overall business and enhancing their scores. Owners receive a rating out of five stars, and all four- and five-star reviews are showcased on The Fit Guide website.
With current standings in Singapore, Dubai, London, Sydney, and New York, and ambitious plans for further expansion, this successful duo is revolutionizing the boutique fitness industry. When asked for his advice to those aspiring to succeed in the fitness industry, Jack offered simple yet effective guidance. Jack explained to me that his success came from taking it one step at a time, and while in each step, give it absolutely everything you can. Learn, engage, be curious, and become an expert while you dream up your next step. Once you’ve taken in everything you are able to, then the next step will be waiting.
Success is determined by your ability to understand every aspect of your chosen business. Especially in the early stages, it’s important to take all of the opportunities you can, give that step a few years, and once you see marked improvement year over year, you’re ready for the next step. There is no replacement for hands-on experience, time in the trenches, and visibly seeing for yourself the ins and outs of the industry – including gaps that need to be filled with new business ideas.
The journey to success in the health and wellness industry is multifaceted, requiring not only a deep understanding of the field but also the courage to innovate and meet industry needs. Jack Thomas and Matt Lavender exemplify this journey through their creation of The Fit Guide. Their story is evidence of the power of combining expertise from different sectors to create something truly revolutionary.
Jack’s advice is invaluable for anyone looking to make their mark in this industry: take it one step at a time, immerse yourself fully in each phase, and be constantly curious and engaged. By following these principles, aspiring entrepreneurs can navigate the challenges and opportunities that come their way, ultimately achieving success in their ventures.
The health and wellness industry is booming, with more people prioritizing their physical and mental well-being than ever before. This ever-growing market presents a golden opportunity for coaches and trainers to carve out successful careers. However, excelling in this field requires more than just expertise in fitness and nutrition; it demands a keen understanding of the business side of health and wellness. Enter Billy Polson, founder of The Business Movement, whose insights and strategies have helped countless coaches and trainers thrive.
Billy Polson is a renowned business coach in the health and wellness industry, known for his ability to transform passion into profitability. His approach emphasizes the importance of differentiating oneself, leveraging charisma, and fully utilizing one’s unique toolkit. He gave us his best industry advice for coaches, trainers, and studio / gym owners to thrive in a market that is constantly growing.
If you’ve found yourself digging into the leaders of the fitness industry, you’ve probably come across the name Billy Polson once or twice, and if you haven’t, today is your lucky day for an introduction. Billy has worn many hats in the health and wellness industry including personal trainer, performance coach, fitness entrepreneur, founder, owner, and (if you ask me or many people around him) leader and motivator. Not only is Billy the founder and co-owner of DIAKADI Fitness, one of the best gyms in San Francisco, he also helped with the production of DIAKADI’s fitness entrepreneur education program, The Business Movement.
With so much experience building his own brands and businesses, Billy has some major insight as to what makes someone successful in this industry. The Business Movement is focused on helping studio and gym owners as well as personal trainers as they curate their business strategy to differentiate themselves and to find success in their chosen niche. Or, as Billy puts it, “My job is to help other people find their dream job”.
Standing out as a coach or trainer can become increasingly difficult as more people turn towards health and fitness related careers. How do you separate yourself as a leader and an expert in your field when the industry continues to grow at such a fast rate?
Finding your dream job within the health and wellness industry doesn’t need to be as complex or extreme as it may sound. One of the main things Billy suggests to his clients is to figure out your unique brand and differentiator, and you can do so by asking a few questions.
Answering those questions will give you a great head start as you’re finding your direction, re-assessing your business, or looking to obtain more growth doing what you already love. Finding your differentiator is step one.
After you figure out what your differentiator is, you’ll have to accentuate your expertise with your individual charisma. The definition of “charisma” according to Merriam-Webster is two-fold. 1. “a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (such as a political leader)” or 2. “a special magnetic charm or appeal”. Either way you dice it, Billy points out that this is one of the main qualities he sees in all of the coaches and trainers that are the most successful overall.
Some would argue that charisma is something you’re born with, and not something you can learn, but whether you’re born with it or not, you’ll want to spend time building upon your charisma and magnetism.
Some ways to build on this might be:
Billy also commented that having a superb toolkit is something he sees the most successful trainers utilizing. What is a tool kit? In the simplest form, a tool kit is a metaphor for a real life tool box. Each tool in the tool box is meant to do something to fix or build. Hammers, screwdrivers, nails, and measuring tapes are the metaphors for your business skills you’ll need to have if you want to find long-term success in your business.
Some of these tools can be as simple as continuing your education and remaining ever-curious. By learning more, you’re always growing with the trends and changes, and providing your clients an even more professional experience. You’ll also want to build your tools around acquiring and retaining clients, business practices, and Billy even goes into the way you celebrate client results.
The health and wellness industry is ripe with opportunities for dedicated coaches and trainers to thrive while doing what they love, but success requires more than just a passion for fitness and helping others. Billy exemplifies how understanding the business side of health and wellness can turn your passion into your profit. His approach to differentiating oneself, leveraging charisma, and building a comprehensive toolkit offers a roadmap for standing out in a competitive market.
In today’s fast-paced world, technology has become a vital component of nearly every industry, including health and wellness. The integration of smart devices, apps, and online platforms has revolutionized the way fitness coaches operate, making it easier than ever to connect with clients and offer personalized, engaging training experiences. As fitness coaches adapt to these tech-enabled environments, they are finding new ways to thrive and excel in their profession.
It is important for coaches and trainers to utilize this technology in order to stay relevant as the industry shifts, optimize their offerings (and therefore their revenue), and to provide their clients with the best tools to help them reach success.
There are a lot of buzz words around “tech” and “technology”, so getting a clear understanding of what a tech-enabled environment means is paramount. According to The University of Birmingham, enabling technology is: “Equipment and/or methodology that, alone or in combination with associated technologies, provides the means to generate giant leaps in performance and capabilities of the user.”
When a company or business decides to enter the “tech-enabled environment”, it means they are using existing technology to boost their platform, increase sales and revenue, and improve their current business model. This is true for any business, including those who own and operate businesses or studios in the health and wellness industry.
An example of this would be EGYM– an AI powered experience that allows trainers and coaches a way to personalize training plans, provide data-based guidance to keep clients motivated and excited to reach goals, and the ability to take this information and guidance inside and outside of the gym.
EGYM collects all health information to automatically configure with machines, trackable devices, and apps, and cardio equipment so their members can utilize any connected machine or take their workouts on the go. This technology will even remember each individual member’s settings, so they never have to remember seat placement, adjust the machine to fit their body, and it increases resistance as needed to hit goals.
As the world shifts and becomes more dependent on technology, coaches and trainers must adapt with technological advances to keep up with client needs and remain up-to-speed on ways this may leverage their business. There are several innovative advancements that allow coaches to thrive in this tech-enabled world including, but not limited to, using AI to write workouts or make playlists, using red light therapy for recovery, and wearing watches that track your sleep, steps, heart rate and recovery.
It also extends to impressive companies like BlazePod. BlazePod is a smart reaction training platform built for mental and physical training for athletes, beginners, and everyone in between. It consists of light up pods that challenge the users agility and reaction time with a variety of programs meant to keep them engaged and stimulated even as they progress. With a blend of equipment like light up pods and the interactive app, you can track progress, set new goals, and surpass your goals related to reaction time and agility.
This is an amazing technology that enables coaches and trainers to push their clients in a new, fun way and gives them real-time results, which keeps their clients engaged and motivated to reach and set new goals. For a trainer or coach, it allows an innovative offering in comparison to the run-of-the-mill agility training methods, and keeps the client mentally engaged for sessions to come.
Another example is Kabata, the world’s first AI-powered dumbbell. These dumbbells are connected to an app that will analyze metrics such as reps, time under tension, power, and more. It is then give you real-time form correction, change the weight based on your needs, and track all of your metrics to allow for specialized feedback to help you (or your clients) progress and crush each goal they set.
Technology has its time and place in the health and wellness industry. We can see this through all the devices that collect data and give us real-world information that help us make tweaks and adjustments to live a healthier life. We track heart rate, calories burned, activity level, sleep, recovery, and even full body metrics to get a better idea of our internal and external health. This data allows us to make decisions that are reflective of individual needs for each personal health and wellness journey.
By staying current with emerging trends and continuously adapting to new technologies, fitness coaches can not only meet the evolving needs of their clients, but also set themselves apart in a crowded market. Embracing technology is about enhancing the coaching experience, optimizing business models, and ultimately, helping clients achieve their fitness goals more efficiently and enjoyably. It is imperative for coaches to adapt, but most importantly, learn where the world of technology and the business of being human intersect. The future of fitness coaching is bright, and those who harness the power of technology will undoubtedly thrive in this dynamic industry.
The health and wellness industry is constantly evolving. With new technology, advancements, and scientific data coming to the surface each day, it can be almost overwhelming to keep up with what may be the most beneficial tools for you, your clients, and your business. If you’re looking for a proven, innovative way to enhance your business offerings and help your clients with their overall wellness, look no further than red light therapy.
Red light therapy has emerged as a compelling option for those seeking non-invasive treatments with a wide range of potential benefits. Once the domain of niche spa treatments, this therapy is now gaining mainstream attention for its promise to enhance skin health, reduce inflammation, and even improve muscle recovery. But what exactly is red light therapy, how does it work, and how can it help you in your business?
According to the Red Light Method website, red light therapy, also known as Photobiomodulation, involves exposing the skin to red light waves for various health benefits. The term breaks down to “light (photo) life (bio) transformation (modulation).” This low-level laser therapy has been shown to offer a variety of health benefits.
Before red light therapy became a popular health and wellness module, red light was something we benefited from just being outside. During sunrise and sunset, red light is naturally occurring and humans are able to absorb it – if they’re outside at those optimal times and have enough significant skin exposure.
Red Light Method owner, Allison Beardsley, is no stranger to the amazing benefits that red light therapy has to offer, and her entrepreneurial spirit led her to opening up a studio that boasts services that are “like a massage, facial, body contouring, a power plate, and a pilates reformer class all in one hour. While talking with Allison, I learned so much about how red light works, how it can help us improve our lives, and why it’s necessary in today’s world.
Allison shared that humans now spend around 90 percent of their time indoors on average. We have shifted as a human collective from the natural ways of life to the convenience of four walls, air conditioning, and constant WiFi access. Because of this, we’re missing many of the natural health benefits humans were able to capitalize on thousands of years ago. Red light therapy has become one of the biohack remedies addressing the lifestyle shift.
Allison has created a successful business using red light therapy benefits for her clients. When asked how other coaches and trainers can utilize these benefits, she offered several pieces of advice. First, if you already own a studio, club, or business, adding a red light component can be an easy way to give members access to a new modality that may boost interest in your club, add an additional stream of revenue, and show your members you’re dedicated to their wellness.
If you’re not equipped with a brick and mortar business, there are still many ways to incorporate red light therapy into your offerings. Many red light therapy devices are portable, making them easy to take to clients’ homes, the gym, or other meeting spots. Adding this service can provide a new source of revenue and demonstrate your commitment to going above and beyond for your clients. It’s also a beneficial way to help them improve their recovery, which will have them ready for another session
Red light therapy presents a multifaceted opportunity for enhancing both personal well-being and business offerings. With its roots in natural sunlight exposure, this therapy has been harnessed and refined to provide targeted health benefits that align with modern lifestyles. Allison Beardsley’s Red Light Method exemplifies how incorporating red light therapy can elevate client experiences by combining multiple wellness modalities into a single session for major benefits.
As a business owner, integrating red light therapy into your services can not only attract new clients but also offer existing members innovative ways to achieve their health goals. Whether through in-studio installations or portable devices, the adaptability of red light therapy makes it a valuable addition to any fitness or wellness program. Embrace the potential of this therapy to not only diversify your business but also to support your clients in achieving their optimal health and wellness.

Elisa is a curious and versatile writer, carving her niche in the health and wellness industry since 2015. Her lens is rooted in real world experience as a personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder and extended out of the gym and on to the page as a writer where she is able to combine her passions for empowering others, promoting wellness, and the power of the written word.
A conversation with Dr. Urban Kiernan is more than just an exchange of words; it’s a transformative experience that challenges your perspectives and enriches your understanding of health and wellness. As the CEO, Founder, and Chairman of iMetabolic Biopharma Corporation (iMBP), Dr. Kiernan is at the forefront of integrating biotechnology with health, redefining what it means to lead a healthy life. His insightful approach to health, focusing on the synergy between technology and wellness, provides a refreshing perspective in an ever-evolving industry.
When I was chatting with Dr. Kiernan about his work, we talked about the melding of the two worlds of health and technology. Although it seems like they should be in opposition to each other, Urban encouraged me to view it through a lens of synergy. How can technology change the way we think about, and take control of our health?
For Dr. Kiernan, the equation all begins with one question: “What is health?” His answer is two-fold and simpler than one might anticipate:
The health and wellness industry is constantly evolving. We learn new information, we see new trends emerging (CrossFit, Mediterranean diet, fats are bad, big butts come in and out of fashion, skinny is out and being super strong is in, etc) and our idea of what is healthy shifts. Something that has remained consistently true in this field is that your health will determine your capability to pursue and enjoy your life, and the amount of lean muscle mass you have is statistically significant when it comes to all-cause mortality rates.
It is up to coaches, trainers, and those who are put in a position of power to help others on their health journey to keep up with the trends, risks and concerns, and changes in the industry to ensure you are effectively helping clients on their pursuit for wellness. This has especially come to industry attention with the rise of GLP-1 drug use. We see a major “quick fix” for weight loss, but it is up to each individual to guide their clients to the bigger picture, which is optimal health. Dr. Kiernan was emphatic on the need for coaches to pay attention to lean muscle mass, especially with their clients on GLP-1 drugs.
The number reflected on the scale doesn’t hold as much weight as it used to. The scale is only telling a small portion of the story, and when we focus on things like lean muscle mass vs fat mass, we get a much better understanding of what overall health looks like. So overall health and wellness takes a look at something much greater than a scale victory.
Most people get into the health and wellness sector in hopes of helping others. For some, it can be an easy way to make a paycheck doing something they like, but for the majority of those who are trainers and coaches, the passion is driven by helping others become the happiest and healthiest versions of themselves. What Dr. Kiernan is doing with his BioTech work is taking that to the next level.
He lives a purpose driven life by helping people fight cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and cardiovascular disease, but that’s just the surface level payoff. What he is doing is helping people live to see more holidays, birthdays, vacations, and more life. The bottom line of what inspires his work was summed up really nicely with one thought he shared: “You go in with that attitude regarding what we want to achieve. And it isn’t about sales, it’s about helping people. To me, money is the natural consequence of doing great things.”
For health and wellness professionals, Dr. Kiernan’s insights underscore the importance of staying informed about industry trends and guiding clients towards sustainable health goals. His work is a testament to the profound impact that a purpose-driven approach can have, not just in personal training and coaching, but in pioneering advancements that shape the future of health and wellness. Dr. Kiernan and his team at iMBP are indeed changing the world, one innovative step at a time.

As a trainer or coach, you’re always on the lookout for innovative tools and techniques that can help your clients achieve their fitness goals more effectively. Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training represents a cutting-edge method that can significantly enhance workout outcomes with minimal stress to the body.
“Most people who are exercising want to know how to build muscle fast and BFR is a new technology that can release growth hormone and build muscle fast in kids, seniors, men, and women,” stated Dr. Mike DeBord, President of B3 Sciences. “BFR Bands are increasingly being used by serious bodybuilders and athletes because they produce natural growth hormone and muscle growth more rapidly. This technology started in Japan over 50 years ago and was recently introduced to our USA Olympic athletes. Now, thousands of everyday people are experiencing a whole new way to exercise in a fraction of the time and with little or no weights involved.”
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training involves the use of specialized bands to partially restrict blood flow to the muscles during exercise. These bands are applied to the upper arms or legs, creating a controlled environment of hypoxia (reduced oxygen supply) in the targeted muscles. This technique stimulates muscle growth and strength gains similar to those achieved with high-intensity workouts, but with significantly lower loads.
When BFR bands are applied, they restrict venous return (the flow of blood back to the heart) while allowing arterial flow into the muscle. This results in an accumulation of blood in the muscle, creating a hypoxic environment. The body responds by:
B3 Bands are the leading choice for blood flow restriction (BFR) training. They are trusted by health and athletic professionals worldwide, including hundreds of doctors and the Kansas City Chiefs. Their multi-air chamber design ensures flexibility, comfort, and safety. These bands are not only easy to use but also highly portable, making them ideal for on-the-go workouts. B3 Sciences enhances the user experience by offering coaching, a wide variety of educational materials, and workout videos. They also provide a BFR course approved for continuing education credits through various programs and institutions, further solidifying their reputation as the top choice in BFR training.
Loved by trainers and clients alike, Larry Indiviglia, BFR Certified Coach and Trainer, iterates his passion for using the bands with clients. “Every fitness professional, coach, trainer and conditioning specialist who adopts the B3 BFR bands and integrates this with their existing programming will add value to their clients and achieve measurable and meaningful results.”
Incorporating BFR (Blood Flow Restriction) training with B3 Bands offers numerous benefits for both trainers and their clients, revolutionizing traditional workout methodologies.By integrating BFR training, trainers can offer a unique, cutting-edge approach that sets them apart in the competitive fitness industry, fostering client satisfaction and retention.

Not all bodies are created equally. Have you ever wondered why two people can weigh the same but look completely different? The answer lies in body composition. Body composition refers to the different components that make up an individual’s body weight, primarily muscle, fat, bone, and water. This is important because while two people might have the same weight, their body composition can vary significantly, influencing their overall appearance, health, and physical capabilities.
Understanding body composition is essential for a comprehensive view of health and fitness. It’s not just about the number on the scale, but about what that number is composed of. I had the amazing opportunity to sit down with two body composition professionals, Elliot and Nikki from Evolt360, to explore the complex world of body composition and how they make it accessible for coaches, trainers, and their clients.
According to WebMD, body composition “refers to the percentage of fat, bone, and muscle in your body.” By understanding body composition, we get a better overview of our health and wellness from an inside and outside perspective. From a health perspective, it is clear that lean muscle mass is an indicator of long-term health. One study found that low skeletal muscle mass was statistically significant in its association with a heightened risk of all-cause mortality.
Body composition tells a detailed story about the body. When it is properly assessed, a body composition scan can tell you incredibly intricate things about your body that can help you work towards optimal health.
Understanding body composition helps with grasping and assessing:
There are several ways to track body composition, each with its own advantages. Common methods include skinfold measurements to estimate body fat, Air Displacement Plethysmography (commonly known as the Bod Pod), and Body Mass Index (BMI). While BMI has been a longstanding tool that calculates body fat percentage based on height and weight, it has its limitations. For instance, BMI assigns a number correlated to categories such as underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obesity. However, it doesn’t account for muscle mass. A shorter linebacker with a high muscle mass might be categorized as obese by BMI standards, even though he could be healthier than the average person.
So, how can we get a more comprehensive view of body composition? According to Nikki and Elliot at Evolt360, the Bio Wellness Indicator (BWI) is a promising alternative. Proprietary to Evolt360, BWI examines over 40 different metrics to track overall health and wellness, providing a more detailed picture than traditional scales.
Evolt360 aims to revolutionize health and wellness tracking through advanced technology. To date, Evolt360 has conducted over 5.5 million scans worldwide, resulting in over 6.6 million pounds (3 million kg) of fat loss and over 3.3 million pounds (1.5 million kg) of muscle gain. These impressive results highlight the importance of lean muscle mass, a key indicator of longevity.
There are many ways this technology can benefit anyone in the health and wellness business. These scans are generally available at health and fitness clubs where a trainer can facilitate the body scan and help the client track their tailored goals and progress based on their age, height, weight, goals, and body type, among others. The scanner tracks these 43 metrics to identify “optimal ranges” for where each person’s health markers should be.
This also allows for higher client retention. The results can be more immediate, impactful, and encouraging than trying to watch numbers change on a scale or attempting to see each new ounce of muscle fill out. It also helps with retention, as the client and trainer are looking three to six months into the future each time they take a new scan.
This is important in a shifting health and fitness industry. While being skinny was an ideal of past generations, today’s ideals consist of more health and strength based goals. Evolt360 is assisting the shift by taking beauty standards out, presenting hard facts and focusing on health-based outcomes.
Understanding body composition is crucial for a comprehensive view of health and fitness. It’s not merely about the number on the scale but about the intricate details of what that number represents. Body composition assessments provide valuable insights into an individual’s health, physical capabilities, and overall well-being. Through innovative technology like Evolt360, professionals and individuals can gain a detailed understanding of their body composition, leading to better health outcomes, personalized fitness plans, and improved client retention in the fitness industry.
Embracing this advanced approach can significantly enhance the effectiveness of health and wellness programs, shifting the focus from superficial standards to genuine health and strength-based goals. Learn more about how Evolt 360 technology can revolutionize your health & fitness business today.
